Macau is presently engaged in a high-roller contest for its six sought-after gaming operation permits. Each of the current operators—SJM Holdings, Galaxy Entertainment, Wynn Macau, MGM China, Sands China, and Melco Resorts—in addition to a fresh face, Genting Malaysia’s branch GMM, have entered the competition.
The tendering procedure is intense, with the administration receiving seven proposals altogether. Although the administration hasn’t officially revealed the particulars of each proposal, they have verified that GMM’s proposal has been greenlit, albeit with stipulations.
The fresh permits are slated to take effect starting January 1, 2023, and will persist for ten years, with a potential three-year prolongation under unique circumstances. This signifies a major transformation in Macau’s wagering scene, as the prior system of sub-concessions has been eliminated under revised gaming regulations.
A nine-person group was formed in Macau back in July to supervise the process of granting fresh casino permits. This influential committee comprises some of Macau’s most powerful individuals, indicating the significance the administration attributes to this procedure. Although no specific date has been determined, it is anticipated that the new licenses will be granted before the year concludes.
