Facial Recognition Software Enforces Self-Quarantine and Venue Bans in Australia

Corsight AI and AusComply have teamed up to introduce a novel software application designed to oversee adherence to self-quarantine protocols. The program notifies administrators when a person required to self-isolate endeavors to access a location.

This facial identification technology, created by Corsight AI, is already being utilized by AusComply in numerous pubs and nightclubs, encompassing prominent establishments such as The Argyle and The Gregory Hills Hotel.

Should someone meant to be self-isolating attempt entry into these venues, Corsight’s technology will instantly signal their presence. Jason Thomas, Managing Director and Founder of AusComply, elaborated that he opted for Corsight after an extended period of assessing diverse facial recognition systems. He emphasized the system’s resilience in handling demanding circumstances like varied camera perspectives, inadequate illumination, and even smoke-filled settings.

He further commended the swiftness and simplicity of deployment, noting that they had the software operational in a mere two and a half hours leveraging their existing camera setup.

Beyond pinpointing individuals obligated to self-isolate, the software can also flag anyone prohibited from a specific location. Brian Sarkis, General Manager of The Argyle in Sydney, conveyed his eagerness for the system, affirming that he promptly advocated for its integration into their daily procedures.

Individuals on the self-ban roster can be confident that The Star’s team is dedicated to ensuring a more agreeable entry process for all guests on Saturday evening.

The Star Entertainment Group employs AusComply’s Patron Check-in Consensual Facial Recognition technology to recognize visitors upon arrival at the casino.

“Variations in guest appearances, such as facial hair growth or wearing headwear or spectacles, can hinder security personnel in effectively and precisely monitoring self-excluded individuals,” noted Shaun Boag, Managing Director for Corsight AI in Australia and New Zealand.

“Moreover, we can safeguard individual privacy while adhering to GDPR regulations and the Australian Privacy Principles, as anyone not flagged is immediately obscured on camera, and all digital traces of their likeness are permanently erased from the system.”

Beyond bolstering the recently implemented self-exclusion database, Australia has also restricted access to an additional five illicit offshore gaming platforms.
