Capen Limited CEO Jailed for Stealing Lottery Funds

Simon Rydings, the top dog at Capen Limited, is in hot water. He’s received a prison sentence for pilfering lottery proceeds, a serious offense.

The UK Gambling Commission (GC) verified that Rydings, the 50-year-old chief executive, took a substantial £285,000 (approximately $380,000) from a lottery organized for Sheffield Hospital Charity. He’s facing three months of incarceration and a significant £1,000 penalty upon release.

Rydings admitted to utilizing the funds for different business expenditures between January 2018 and March 2020. He asserted in court that he couldn’t reimburse the entire sum because he had spent it all.

Helen Venn, a high-ranking official at the GC, emphasized that lottery money is intended for charitable purposes and that individuals like Rydings, who exploit their authority, will face consequences.

The United Kingdom’s Gaming Commission rescinded Capen’s authorization to operate in December of 2020 after a probe into the business’s methods. The Commission concluded that Capen might have engaged in illicit actions, referencing Article 116 of the 2005 Gambling Act.
